holy shit. according to the database, i've been playing for 50 days straight now. not much when you consider the more avid, multi-perfect, mud morons who have racked up thousands of hours of non-stop text fun since the day they fell from their mommy's hatch. whatever. these genX/PentIV/cable modem jockeys have it sweet... the true fossil put up with his 1200 baud access while he mixed gravel into his wheaties before the morning beatings. an idiot name brent hooked me up with my first jedi fix. i was attending my first year of film school at USC in the fall of 1993, and this guy tells me about his 20lev Cler and his cubby. dank (W) was born soon after, like some junkie child, never sleeping, always hungry. he died a year later during the Great Hack of '94, but the jones remained. dank (C) was resurrected. fuck warriors. has it really been almost ten years of jediMud? my favorite memories are those that followed painful DTs... late night speed fests that, more often than not, landed my only charm on the windswept ledge, or off the high cliff, or in the lion pens, or the murder holes, or the tempest. after i'd witnessed my last pair of urings poof, i'd write these long tirades about how unfair DTs were and how'd i'd never be coming back. you'll miss me, i'd whimper. bah! what a fool. after my cry, i'd change my diapers, get back on my anti-depressants and jack back in. so many acquaintances... i can only remember a few... friends that took me from lev 1 to lev 10 in a matter of minutes. 3am gos fests, dbrac racess, emoting at the inn. dumb stuff. jaxx, lsd, goose steppin. parchment quests. mudsex. but hell, ten years of it. calming the statues, losing sanc. late heals, getting hurled near the fiend. invis eq left in a corpse. running the trees. i wonder how many years of productivity i traded for my home here in midgaard? anyway, here's to brent who got me started. dumb fook. and here's to you, the mudVet, the newbie, the imp, the stalwart, the online text game player... ... all of us, keepers of the holy diku. dank
