INNER GATEWAY Level: M24, S21 Cost: 150 mana Target: N/A When: non-combat Delay: one combat round Duration: 20 hours Effect: Inner gateway creates a temporary portal which allows instantaneous travel from one point in the world to another. The spell must be cast twice to make a gate, once in each room where the gates are to be located. Travel is possible in both directions through the gateway. Only the caster can activate a gateway.
Gates are used in a common strategy to take down boss mobs. Called "gatewalking," the strategy employs a gate originator mage who leads the rest of a mage squad individually through the gate and to the boss, unloading Word of Death or Disintegrate spells until the boss is down. Usage: cast 'inner gateway'
If you have the magic spellbook, Alhandril, you may use the magical script skill to copy the spell onto a parchment creating a recitable scroll. For more information, see Spell Quest Assembly below.
Example of Use:
Say you want to set a gate in Upper Galaxy. Find a safe room in the Upper Galaxy, and send a gossip that you're starting a gateway.
> gos gating
Set the first gate of the gateway pair:
> cast 'inner'
Recall to your hometown:
> recite recall
Move to a private room somewhere near your hometown recall, and set the remaining gate of the pair.
> cast 'inner'
Let the mud know you've completed your gate pair:
> gos complete!
Keep in mind that your gateway will last 20 ticks (25 minutes) and needs to be replenished before it expires. If you're still farming in the zone where your gate is located, use the following commands to start a new gate using the old gate:
gos gating touch gate cast 'inner' touch 2.gate cast 'inner' touch 2.gate gos complete!
